What is worth visiting in Cracow?
The City of Polish Kings – this has been the name used to describe Cracow for ages. This city brings masses of tourists on yearly basis and owes its undeniable charm to numerous monuments and unique climate that can be felt only here. It is no wonder that as early as in our schooling years many of us visit this city, since it has a lot in common with Polish culture, history and national heritage – it is one of the cities in our country that we have to visit in our lifetime.
One of the most important places that we have to see is of course the Main Marketplace – surrounded by charming tenement houses, restaurants’ gardens and other premises is a wonderful place to have a delicious lunch or a cup of coffee, during which we may contemplate distinctive St. Mary’s Basilica with two towers of different height. We should also remember about the Cloth Halls, where we can buy beautiful though rather expensive souvenirs – worthy of attention is a museum that gathers fair queues of interested tourists and is placed below the surface of the Marketplace. People having a sweet tooth will surely enjoy Cracow Chocolate Factory and Sweets Factory together with many other charming cafes around the Marketplace that offer excellent rarities – ranging from sweet local cakes to dish straight from Georgia. While walking from the Marketplace to Wawel, it is absolutely necessary to see Vistulan Boulevards that are overcrowded by tourists, especially during the spring and summer when it is possible to rest on the blanket by the riverside. The sight on Vistula’s meander close to Wawel is incredibly beautiful and of course we cannot forget about meeting Wawel Dragon. After the visit in the Dragon’s Den our imperative should be to see the castle – it is where we shall feel the history with every step we make, it is a place where many Polish lords are buried. In the castle there are also many interesting monuments and pieces of art – an afternoon here is an afternoon well spent. When we are done with the crowds we can find some peace and quiet in Kazimierz – very distinctive Jewish district, full of interesting cafes – it is where we can eat the best ice-cream and casseroles in Cracow signalized by big queues. If we want to rest more actively than walking around and eating, then we go to Aquapark – this enormous object has many water chutes, Jacuzzi and swimming pools, where you can spend an entire day. It is good idea to have some physical activity and relax after sightseeing. Fans of the military should go to nearby Aviation Museum – an interesting and worth visiting is also MOCAK, Museum of Contemporary Arts and for people interested in the Second World War and not only will find Schindler’s Factory most amazing. However, if we have had enough of city’s clamor, crowds and noise then we should go to Zakrzówek – this artificial body of water is most charming and separated from all the city’s craze. It is where we can relax while being in the nature. If we are more keen on places like this one, then we should visit the Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec – a beautifully situated monastery, meandering Vistula and a load of swans – it is impressive.
